Clean Water Groups Urge Costco to Change Labeling of "Flushables"

The Clean Water Summit Partners submitted a follow-up letter to Costco regarding its sale of “flushable” products.  Despite that fact that only toilet paper is safe to be flushed down the drain, some new consumer products are marketed as disposable or flushable. These wipes may – or may not – make it through your household pipes, but they wreak havoc at the sewage treatment plant. They don’t disintegrate the same way as toilet tissue and cause problems by clogging up sewage channels. CWEA and its partners are working on a campaign to change the mislabeling of these products.
