The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports incumbent director Rachel Lather reaped 64 percent of the votes for a seat on the Soquel Creek Water District.
Challenger John Edward Bargetto, a winemaker and businessman, finished with 34 percent of all 13,800 votes cast, according to Santa Cruz County Elections Department.
Soquel Creek Water District is governed by a five-person Board of Directors, who are elected to four-year terms. Lather has been a registered civil engineer for 32 years.
She will serve a two-year term.
The Water District encompasses 7 miles of shoreline and extends 1 to 3 miles inland. The District works closely with Central Water District because of proximity of aquifers.
