California based Coombs-Hopkins Company has signed an agreement to become the lead supporter for the CWEA Awards Program for 2016.
Coombs-Hopkins sponsorship will allow CWEA to continue upgrading and improving our awards program, including working with CWEA’s technical committees to streamline the nomination process as needed.
“We’re proud to support a program which honors California’s wastewater professionals,” said Bruce Zimmerman, a Vice President with Coombs-Hopkins. “Particularly since these women and men rarely get the recognition they deserve for the outstanding job they do.”
The CWEA Awards program offers 30 different award categories. In 2015 our technical committees selected 40 wastewater professionals and 18 agencies to recognize for their outstanding achievements. The Awards program was started in 1929 and continues to grow each year to recognize new categories that honor clean water professionals and outstanding new projects.
“We’re pleased to continue expanding CWEA’s popular awards program so we can honor hardworking water professionals and provide them with the recognition they deserve,” said Elizabeth Allan, CWEA’s Executive Director. “We thank Coombs-Hopkins for their support of the program.”
The CWEA awards program is well regarded for covering all regions throughout our state. Award winning professionals and agencies frequently receive positive attention from local media and local political leaders. CWEA’s 17 local sections oversee the first stage of the program. The local Board solicits nominations and oversees the selection of winners within their boundaries. Winners at the local section level then go on to the state level where judging is overseen by CWEA’s Technical Committees.
CWEA’s Board of Directors and the Membership and External Relations Committee oversee the Awards program each year including approving the final list of statewide winners. MER is chaired by Giti Heravian. The staff liaison for awards is Megan Barillo, Communications Manager.
The Coombs-Hopkins Company is a manufacturers representative firm with offices in Carlsbad, Walnut Creek, Phoenix, Salt Lake City and Denver. They represent leading process equipment manufacturers including Trojan, GE Water, Ovivo, Parkson, Alfa Laval and more. The firm was started in 1983 by Jon Coombs.
The CWEA awards program seeks to recognize outstanding achievements within the water environment field, improve the professional status of all personnel working in the field, and stimulate public awareness of the importance of wastewater treatment to public health and the water environment.
Participating in the awards program is valuable because it:
- Acknowledges team and individual excellence
- Boosts employee morale and agency pride
- Raises agency profile in the community – and with ratepayers, public officials and board members.
- Provides the media with a positive story to report. Free positive publicity
- Benchmarks accomplishments in the field
- Increases results and productivity though friendly competition
- Reinforces agency and industry direction. Adds credibility to claims of excellence in regards to environmental record, public health or employee safety, among many others
