60-day Comment Extension for Dental Amalgam Rule

On November 17, CASA and the Clean Water Summit Partners (Bay Area Clean Water Agencies, Southern California Alliance of POTWs, Central Valley Clean Water Association, and California Water Environment Association) requested a 60-day extension of the comment period for the proposed federal dental amalgam rule. (See attached letter.) The proposed rule, published on October 22, 2014, would affect thousands of dental offices in California and a significant number of POTWs across the state by mandating various mercury control efforts related to dental amalgam. Later in the week, USEPA’s Office of Water announced that the agency would grant a 60-day extension to the comment period for the dental amalgam separator rule. CASA is currently gathering data and developing comments to the substance of rule, and will submit recommendations by the now-extended deadline.
