Padre Dam Embarks on Pilot Program to Bring New Water Source To San Diego’s East County

The potential to create a new water source for San Diego’s East County will be one step closer on Friday, April 10 with the grand opening of Padre Dam Municipal Water District’s Advanced Water Purification Demonstration Facility.

The Advanced Water Purification Program is a potential new source of water that would be locally controlled, reliable, drought-proof and environmentally sound. The demonstration facility will produce approximately 100,000 gallons of purified water each day, which will be vigorously tested to ensure high quality water standards are being met. The water produced during this phase will not be utilized in the drinking water system.

WHO:Padre Dam Municipal Water District and partner agency leaders, including:  California State Assemblyman Brian Jones, County Supervisor Dianne Jacob, Associate Director U.S. EPA Region 9 Water Division John Kemmerer, San Diego County Water Authority Board Chair Mark Weston, Helix Water District Board President Charles Muse and City of El Cajon Councilmember Tony Ambrose.

WHAT: A ribbon cutting ceremony commemorating the opening of Padre Dam’s Advanced Water Purification Demonstration Facility and tour program kick-off.
